George Elliott Clarke is a poet, novelist, playwright and literary critic. Some of his recent books are The Motorcyclist (HarperCollins, 2016), The Merchant of Venice (Retried), (Gaspereau Press, 2017), and Directions Home: Approaches to African-Canadian Literature (University of Toronto Press, 2011). Clarke is the recipient of numerous awards and honourary doctorates. He served as Toronto's Poet Laureate from 2012 to 2015 and as Canada's Parliamentary Poet Laureate from 2016 to 2017. He has taught at Harvard University, Duke University, and is now E.J. Pratt Professor of Canadian Literature at the University of Toronto.
