CLEVIDENCE/ BIO
THERE WILL BE MORE TIMES WHEN THE DOGS OF DAWN
there will be more times when the dogs of dawn curl
rosy-nosed on your thigh— more time to chase
the squirrels of time in the briars and underbrush of time, to walk
beside times highways, there will be time
to know and unknow the many hidden things, put small
rocks inside your soul, fall in love again but differently this time,
be more gentle, kind, make new meanings from the trails and scents of things,
to bless times dim elation, times gradual awareness, tires stacked altars—
there will be dawns full of an easy feeling come up hard or soft
as the planet turns under us, and we turn to ourselves, our small worlds
in their bigger world— to tend to times hungers, to feed time the egg yolks
from the blue bowl, let the tomato plant grow
up the dirt-streaked window where the paw marks are
— when they whine, open the door and let the wet dogs in.
