THE MIGRANT OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

“To hope is to doze in destiny’s diligence waiting for
the jolt which wakes you up.”
Tchimpadou

I dug up the tombs
Nothing
Nothing but the snort of the dead.

I split the stones
Nothing
Not even half a flicker.

I pick up abhorrence
Nothing
Here is the migrant's grave.

Tchimpadou is the female head of the Soko clan, a tribe from the dense forest of Central Africa which inherited 1000 words at the start of life. Everyone who dies takes 30 words to go and speak to the dead. Each newborn arrives with one word. The Soko people will only find speech again when the original 1000 words are reunited.
